Documents & money

Passport (rental shops ask for it)
Travel insurance that covers skiing and snowboarding
Credit card plus some cash — small shops and lift huts can be cash only
IC card (Suica / Pasmo / Kitaca) for trains and convenience stores
Booking confirmation and pick-up code (screenshot it)

Clothing (layers)

Thermal base layer, top and bottom (no cotton)
Fleece or light down mid-layer
Ski socks — one thin pair, not two
Neck warmer or face mask
Beanie or helmet liner
Warm shoes with grip for icy streets

On the mountain

Goggles (most shops don't rent them)
Gloves or mittens, plus a spare thin pair
Sunscreen and lip balm — snow reflects strong UV
Small backpack for layers and water
Hand warmers (kairo, sold in every convenience store)
Phone power bank — cold drains batteries fast

Before you ride

Check the day's avalanche and gate status before going off-piste
Know the resort rules: never duck ropes, only use backcountry gates
Save emergency numbers: 119 ambulance, 110 police, Japan Visitor Hotline 050-3816-2787
Note your rental shop's return time and location
Book lessons early for Christmas, New Year and Lunar New Year

Etiquette & onsen

Wash before entering an onsen; no swimsuits
Many onsen don't allow visible tattoos — check first
Queue in lift lines, don't cut in
Stop at the side of the run, not in the middle
Keep your trash with you; bins are rare

Your rental pack from us includes board or skis, boots and wear; our beginner pack adds a helmet, goggles, gloves and a beanie.
