Get insurance that covers skiingCheck that your travel insurance covers skiing and snowboarding, ambulance, and rescue. Many policies exclude off-piste or backcountry.
Leave the piste only through gatesIn Niseko, ducking a rope is against the NISEKO Rules and can cost you your lift pass. Go out only through the official gates and only with avalanche gear and a partner. Source ↗
Check lifts before you go upStrong wind closes upper lifts and gondolas, often in January and February. Check the resort's lift status in the morning.
Wear a helmetAsk for one with your rental. Our beginner pack includes it.
Watch for coldHokkaido summits are often well below −10 °C. Cover your face and ears, and go inside if fingers or cheeks turn white or numb.
Pay only on our siteWe never ask you to pay a shop or coach in cash or by bank transfer outside the booking. Lessons booked through us are paid through us.
Lost something?Ask the resort's ticket office or information desk first; most resorts keep lost property there.

Before you go

Book dinner before you flyNiseko and Hakuba restaurants fill up, some a week or more ahead; Christmas–New Year and Chinese New Year are hardest. Hakuba's top places mostly use TableCheck with a card guarantee.
Expect cancellation feesSame-day or day-before cancellations often cost 50–100%, or about ¥3,000 per person.
Weekday closures are normalTowns close on set days: Kutchan Tue/Wed, Nozawa Tue–Thu, Furano Mon/Wed/Thu. Lunch-only soba shops close around 14:30–15:00.
Carry cash or PayPayMany small local places take no cards.
Last bus is earlyNiseko's free shuttles stop around 20:30; plan a taxi back after dinner.
Some places close for winterSeveral onsen and viewpoints are summer-only. Look for the red tag below.
In Nozawa, eat at 18:00You beat the 19:00 rush. A lit red lantern means open even if the door is shut.
