Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-11-01
Just Ski (“we”, “us”) runs a booking service for ski and snowboard rentals in Japan. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, and who we share it with. We handle personal information in line with Japan’s Act on the Protection of Personal Information (APPI) and, for visitors from the EU/UK, the GDPR principles that apply to us.
1. Information we collect
- Booking details: name, email, country, messaging app and ID (if you give one), resort, dates, pickup or delivery choice, hotel name for delivery.
- Rider details needed to fit gear: height, weight, boot size, ability level, ski or snowboard, stance. You may enter these for people travelling with you; please make sure they agree.
- Payment: we do not take payments at present; you pay the rental shop directly. If we introduce online payment later, it will be handled by a payment provider (Stripe) and we will never see your full card number.
- Messages you send us through forms, email, messaging apps or our chat assistant.
- Technical data: basic server logs from our hosting provider (IP address, browser, pages requested) used for security and fixing errors.
2. Why we use it
- To check availability with rental shops and help you book with them.
- To send booking-related messages (confirmation, pickup instructions, changes).
- To answer your questions and handle problems or refunds.
- To improve the site and prevent fraud and misuse.
- To send occasional news or offers only if you opt in; you can unsubscribe at any time.
3. Sharing with rental shops and service providers
We share your booking and rider details with the rental shop (and, where relevant, the ski school) that will provide your service, only as far as needed to prepare your gear. By sending a booking request you consent to this. We do not sell personal information.
We also use service providers that process data for us:
- Stripe (only if online payment is introduced) — United States and other countries
- Netlify (website hosting and form handling) — United States
- Supabase (database) — cloud servers that may be located outside Japan
- Anthropic (powers the chat assistant when you type a question) — United States
- Email and messaging services we use to contact you
4. Transfers outside Japan
Some of these providers store or process data outside Japan, mainly in the United States. The United States has no single comprehensive federal privacy law equivalent to the APPI; protections come from sector laws, state laws (such as California’s) and the providers’ own contractual and security commitments. We choose providers that maintain safeguards consistent with the APPI. You can ask us for more details about these measures.
5. How long we keep it
We keep booking records for as long as needed to provide the service and to meet accounting and legal obligations (usually up to 7 years for transaction records under Japanese tax law). Rider fitting details are deleted or anonymised after the season ends unless you ask us to keep them for your next trip.
6. Security
We limit access to staff who need it, use encrypted connections (HTTPS), rely on providers with recognised security practices, and ask the shops we contact to use your information only for your rental.
7. Cookies and local storage
We do not use advertising cookies. The site stores a few small items in your own browser (for example, resorts you saved with the heart button, and whether you have already seen the opening animation). These stay on your device and you can clear them in your browser settings.
8. Your rights
You can ask us to tell you what personal information we hold about you, correct it, stop using it, delete it, or stop sharing it with third parties, as provided by the APPI (and, where they apply, GDPR rights such as access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection). Contact us through the contact page; we will reply without undue delay after confirming your identity.
9. Children
Bookings must be made by an adult. Information about children travelling with you (for example, height and boot size) is used only to fit their gear.
10. Changes and contact
We may update this policy and will show the new date at the top. For any questions or requests, please use our contact page. Information about the business operator is available on request (see Legal notice).
